Evan eating bananas

5 month update- Evan weights 17lbs 3oz and is 27inches long. We started him back on rice cereal and added bananas for the first time yesterday ( see attached video on it!). Evan is sooo close to sleeping through the nite. For about the last week he has been waking up between 4 or 5am for a feeding then falls back to sleep until 6 or 7ish. So if we could just get him to go for 1 or 2 more hours mommy would know what a full nights sleep feels like! He is slowing starting to develop longer naps and takes at least 2 naps a day that are at least 1 hour long. He has had a cough and runny nose for the last few days but no fever, from what I have heard it may be because of teething. He has been a emotional roller coaster the last few weeks ( baby pms) I was worried that he was getting spoiled already :(, if he didn't get what he wanted he would scream then once he got it he would be giggling again, but thankfully what I read in this book, that follows babies development for the first year, they are going through a phase where they don't know how to deal with all of their emotions and they will mellow back out in a few weeks. Evan is sitting up really well, but not quite on his own, I think its only a matter of a few more weeks. His favorite things to do right now are sit in his high chair and play with kitchen gadgets and of course watch Baby Einstein. Its been really warm lately and Evan has got to wear shorts, he has the cutest cangles in the world!!! I will try and get a pic and post later. We are meeting Ryan's family in Florida in a few weeks so I am sure I will get lots of great leg shots then :)

Evan's Family Reunion

Well there is sooo much to update so I thought I would do good old fashion bullet point to make sure I remembered everything and don't bore my readers!
-Evan met his cousins Madeline and Jackson and his Aunt Rachel and Uncle Matt for the first time this week when they came into town from California to visit. His Aunty Sarah, Uncle Jason, and cousin Elise also visited from Ohio which Evan already met back in February.
-Evan ate rice cereal for the first time and got his first bad diaper rash because of it :(, so we are back to a strictly liquid diet
- After a lot of coercing Evan got another hair cut, and his baby locks are all gone :( and now he looks like his his ready to leave for the army with his buzz cut :(
-Evan went to his first zoo this weekend when we visited the Wild Wilderness Drive Thru Safari.
-Evan and his cousins all got their pictures taken together.
-If Evan can see it he wants to grab it and put it in his mouth. Before Evan was really only attracted to his toys, but now he wants my mascara, my menu, my cup, basically he wants it all and he wants it in his mouth!
- I know this sounds weird to some people but after Evan got his hair cut he found his hair, he rubs on his head all the time now.
-Well as mentioned in a lot of my blogs Evan hasn't been the best napper, 30 minutes naps is all we were getting. The last few weeks majority of his first nap of the day is lasting over 1.5hrs!

To update you from my last entry, I ended up taking Evan to the doctor and he had an ear infection, roseola ( rash from fever), and bad congestion from his cold. So he got his first antibiotic :( and cough medicine. He really handled it like a champ, his only problem was sleeping because he couldn't sleep laying flat because of the congestion, so he spent 5 nights in our bed either propped on a pillow or on my chest.
Well then that created a vicious little problem, Evan wants to be held at night while he sleeps. Well I hit my breaking point last nite. Evan woke 4 times before 2am just wanting to be soothed back to sleep. When he woke the first time I told Ryan " I will enjoy Evan wanting to be rocked by his momma while I can :)" and by 2am I told Ryan " I am about to lose it". I fed him and rocked him back to sleep and the minute I laid him down he popped open those precious eyes and started to cry. So I decided it was time to try the dreaded "cry it out" ( please dont judge :). So I swaddled him nice and tight, gave him his passy, closed my bedroom door, turned down his video monitor ( but I could still see him) and set my alarm for 30minutes. I tried my hardest not to stare at the monitor the entire time and 25minutes later he was out and slept until the morning!! So we are hoping we are on our way to a healthy new sleeping pattern for all. Keep your fingers crossed for us!
So as I mentioned before I am weaning Evan off of breastmilk. When he was 3wks old he started getting formula occasionally and never seemed to have any aversion to it. Well the last week or so he wasn't eating much and would some time get really grumpy after he ate. I wasn't sure if it was his lost of appetite from the cold or teething ( I hear they aren't as hungry when they teeth), but I was lucky if he was eating 20 oz a day ( they should eat 30-40 a day) so I switched formula over the weekend and today he has already eaten 30 oz!! This formula is half the price ( Wal-mart brand Gentle) and smells much better then the other kind.
My friend Jodi from Colorado was in town this week with her daughter Rylan. Evan and I met her Friday for lunch and then Friday night we had a belated birthday party for Rylan at Jodi's mother in laws.

Evan'a first cold

Well like I said in one of my last blogs I want to use this blog as a bit of a diary so I can look back and remember...
So this past weekend Evan got his first cold :(
He ran a temp around 102 all weekend but was in a pretty good mood ( just extra cuddly), but this week the congestion has kicked in and he has had a runny nose and an ucky cough that comes out when he sleeps. Today for the first day he has had the cough through out the day. So if we have another bad night I am going to call the doctor tomorrow.
But with Evan being born in the flu season I am happy that we made it this long before he got sick!

I love my monkey

So the last few days Evan has found his voice! I have been sick the last 3 days ( and Ryan has been out of town) so my mom came by yesterday so I could take a nap. I awoke to Evan talking as loud as he could in his swing. The morning before I got this video of him talking to his monkey. It was cracking me up!

Activity Bouncy

Its official he can roll!

So I was going to wait until next week to update the blog because Evan goes for his 4 month check up, but some exciting things have happened this week so I decided to do an update. And now that my sister has had her baby it has made me realize that I wish I would of kept a better log of Evan's growth so I am kinda using this blog as my log :)

So its official Evan can roll over to his belly from his back! From what I read he is about 4-6wks ahead of most babies on doing this. And for the first time today he then rolled back onto his back ( and as I write this is about to do it again!)

I put Evan in his activity jumper yesterday for the first time ( well I put him in their for a quick second when Ryan put it together the other day) any how I was very impressed at how interested he was in it. He immediately started grabbing at the toys and kicking his feet to try to touch the ground. He couldn't really sit up so he quickly got frustrated. Just in the last week have I noticed he is deliberate in the things he grabs for and his time in his jumper really confirmed that. I took a quick little video of it. ( excuse my annoying baby talk I just can't help it).

This week I have also started to wean Evan off of breast milk. I have only dropped one feeding ( he feeds 5 times during the day and about 2 at night). I am only going to drop a feeding a week so it will take about a month and a half before he is totally off breast milk. Its been bitter sweet for me, but selfishly I am ready to have my body back. I have loved loaning it out to my little chunky butt though :)

So yesterday morning at 5am when I was walking back to bed after feeding Evan I stubbed my toe on Ryan's suitcase. I heard a snap and was like oh no, I either broke off my toenail or broke my toe. So I grabbed my cell phone for some light and my toenail was still there. So I turned on the lamp and there was my toe facing the wrong direction. Ryan happened to be up because he had a 630 flight to catch. So after confirming with him it did appear that I had broke my toe. From my recollection I didn't think you could do anything for a broken toe, so I goggle it to confirm and text my sister who is a doctor and happened to be up because of time difference and there isn't really anything you can do but to buddy tape it to the toe next to it. So for the last two days I have been hobbling around, but it actually isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. But in the end it will be a cute story to tell Evan!

We have had a few days here and there of really nice weather so we have gotten to take more walks. Evan loves them!! He loves the wind !!( and its super windy here all the time) He will just smile and giggle. If its really windy he was start foaming at the mouth will saliva. Its hilarious!

He also has been giggling if you tickle him which is cute. You aren't always guaranteed a laugh but most of the time he will.

One of his favorite people lately has been Katie Forbis. I watch her after school and help get her to her activities, Evan just loves to watch her and will just smile and smile at her. He will be in the middle of crying and Katie will say "hi Evan" and he will stop to smile at her.

Oh and from what I have been reading it looks like Evan's eyes may stay blue. Which is exciting for me since that will be the only physical trait that makes Evan look like my son, well except for the dimples that we both have on our ears, but who notices things like that but a mother :)

Well I meant this to be a short update, but there is just always so many new any exciting things I want to get out!

( oh and during the time it took my to write this Evan rolled from his back to his belly and then back onto his back again 3 times!)

3 Month Update

Well its been too long since we updated everyone and a lot has happened.
Ryan's parents came and visited President's Day weekend. Evan really enjoyed seeing his grandparents! And so did Ryan and I. Thanks to his parents we got to have a nice Valentines dinner together while Evan stayed with Bob and Cheryl.
Then later that week Evan and I left for Ohio to visit my sister Sarah and her new baby Elise. While I was there my dad came up from Indiana and met Evan for the first time. Then the second to last day we were there my Aunt Joyce, cousin Susan, and her daughter Katie came to visit as well. ( click on Shutterfly link to see pictures of their visit and various other photos). Evan was a perfect angel while we were there. He was content with whatever we were doing and had a huge smile for everyone he met. Not that Evan hasn't always been a good baby, but this bubbly little independent baby emerged while we were there. He was happy if he was on the play mat, he was happy if he was in the swing, he was happy if he was being held, and he was happy if he wasn't. But sadly to say old Evan has returned. He wants to be held just so, he only wants the swing for short periods of time, and cover your ears if you put him in his car seat. So needless to say we are moving to Ohio in with his Aunty Sarah :)
The last 4 weeks emerged a child that wants to eat all night long and not sleep. I have heard it all : 3 month growth spurt, he enjoys your company and doesn't want to be without you, he is teething, he isn't eating enough during the day. Well I have tried all remedies and nothing seems to work. So I am a walking zombie all week until the weekend comes when Ryan lets me sleep in.
Our strong little man has been trying his hardest to sit up and roll over from his back to belly. He hasn't rolled from his stomach to back since our last video.
I text Ryan today and told him we are not allowed to leave Evan on the coach unattended any longer ( I know we are bad parents we were never suppose to leave him unattended :), but today we were sitting there. Evan was propped up against a pillow, I leaned down to get a tissue from under the coffee table and next thing I know Evan is off the pillow and has rolled to the side and is about 1inch from the edge of the sofa. He had pulled himself up to a sitting position and then couldn't hold it and had feel to the side and then rolled onto his stomach.
Evan's Aunty Sarah has a prediction- she says Evan will be running before he walks. Anyone that has been around Evan for any period of time knows he always has those feet kicking. I call him my little Happy Feet.
The last 2 weeks I have been working on laying Evan down awake for his naps instead of rocking him to sleep. So far not so good. I can only listen to him fuss for a few minutes before I am back in there putting back in his passy and rubbing his belly. And if he breaks out into a really good scream I am racing back in there picking him up and soothing him in the rocking chair. Then to make me feel worse my mom showed her excellent grandma skills this weekend by laying him down for a nap and he was out. No soothing, no belly patting, and a strange bed to top it off. So its official we are moving to Ohio and taking my mom with us!

Evan's First Roll!

Well this has been a big month for firsts! We had Evan's first mini haircut, his first giggle, and now we caught him ROLLING OVER on video for the first time!!!!! He was laying on his mat doing some tummy time and immediately started kicking his legs and was starting to roll to one side. I was amazed, he had never tried it before. Well I could tell right away he was more then likely going to make it so I hurried and grabbed the video camera and sure enough I got it!!!

I LOVE MY SOCKS!!!

So the most exciting thing happened this evening we caught Evan's very first laugh/giggle on video!!!!We were sitting on the couch and Evan was getting kind of fussy. So I took his socks off to rub his feet ( he loves his feet rubbed).I am trying to encourage him to hold things so I put the socks in his hand. At the same time Ryan was asking me if I had been singing to him lately. I told him today I made up a song about clapping. So I then start to make up a song about socks.
Well as you can see from the video, he loved it and it produced his first giggle!!!

Evan's Hair Diaries

So as you all remember Evan was born with a hearty head of hair. Well the last few weeks have not been so nice to him and he has developed a vicious bald spot and a lovely little mullet! Also with the thinning of his hair we have found 2 birth marks, one at the crown and one at his neckline.
So as much as we all love a good mullet, mommy couldn't handle it any longer and I had to give Evan his first mini hair cut!
Well after my last entry about the ice storm that we got I jinxed us and we ended up losing power Sunday afternoon and it didn't return until late Monday evening. It worked out for the best and we got to spend 2 nights out at my mom's. She is leaving to see Sarah and Elise this week so it worked out perfect that she got to spend some extra time with Evan.
The first night we were there Ryan and I went over to our friends house to watch the Superbowl so Mom got to put Evan to bed. I brought his wedge for him to sleep on. Well after Mom laid him down she realized that it looked like he was slanting the wrong direction. So she lifted up his bottom to see if there was any hair on the wedge, but unbeknown to her I had just washed it the day before and no evidence of his hair lose was on there. He ended up waking a little while later and she realized that she did have it the wrong way. The next night Ryan came and stayed out at my mom's ( the first night he stayed at the house so he didn't have to make the hour drive to work in the morning) so Evan had to sleep on the floor. When he woke the first time he had completely scooted all the way off the wedge and blanket and was laying on the carpet. So after I fed him and put him back to sleep I just laid him down right on the blanket, when he woke the next time he had done a 180 and was faced a different direction. So lesson to us is that our little man is out growing his wedge and its time to take everything out of the crib because he has turned into a night wiggle warm!
